Program: Hope for IMGs

A resource for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and a blueprint-for-success initiative for new legal immigrant families, aiming to enrich our communities while potentially enhancing the economies of their native lands.

Anchor of Hope Inc. collaborates with International Medical Graduates, guiding them in seeking residency programs nationwide. These graduates are divided into two categories: USIMGs and IMGs. Regardless of their prior qualifications, both groups comprise medical doctors who received training outside the United States. As a result, they are mandated to undergo a residency training program, a justified requirement.

Understanding the practice of medicine in America is crucial. The only exempt IMGs are those trained in Canada, as their curriculum closely resembles that of US-trained doctors. They must pass a rigorous three-part exam with high scores, yet this doesn't guarantee them a residency slot, let alone their desired specialty.

On average, IMGs take 4-9 years to secure a residency program in America—a significant misallocation of human resources.

During this waiting period, many subsist by working as waitstaff. This reality has persisted within the medical community for nearly 50 years. The tragedy lies in the perpetual shortage of physicians and healthcare professionals across the country at any given time.

We assist IMGs by providing mentors, securing observership positions, honing clinical skills, offering resume assistance, acquiring reference letters, and exploring alternative options.
